About Jessica

A note about the this site’s title: It comes from page 168 of Sebastian Barry’s On Canaan’s Side. It is meant to be a bit self-deprecating. As a former conservative Christian, I have deep emotional scars from years of trying to fit into the “saintly” mold. I do not wish to be hamstrung by that characterization, and actively fight against it. Thus, you might say that I am suffering from that old saintliness.

Jessica is:

A writer.

An advocate.

A Masters of Divinity student at Chicago Theological Seminary.

Pastoral Associate at Mt. Pleasant Reformed United Church of Christ.

Vegan, a coffee/tea addict, autism mom, film buff, and former conservative-republican concerned with issues of peace, justice, love, and mercy.

And perhaps most importantly: not a saint.
